Pinwheels for Peace
INTERNATIONAL PEACE DAY
SEPTEMBER 21, 2011
Pinwheels for Peace is an art installation project started in 2005 by two Art teachers, Ann Ayers and Ellen McMillan, who teach at Monarch High School in Coconut Creek, Florida, as a way for their students to express their feelings about what’s going on in the world and in their lives.  The project was quickly embraced by their students and the entire school community and by millions of art teachers, teachers, parents, children and adults who desire peace in our world.

On this day the grade 7’s celebrated peace by planting 120 pinwheels in front of St-Thomas Aquinas Catholic High School.
The first Pinwheels for Peace were installed on Sept. 21, 2005. Since then, we have grown from 500,000 pinwheels planted the first year, to three and a half million pinwheels in 2010!

Once again STA celebrated International Day of Peace with "whirled peace!"

Peace Fountain
On Wednesday May 11th the 7-8 students of S.T.A were visited by The Fountain of Peace Project. The Fountain of Peace Producer/CEO Kathy Arnason came to Russell on her journey from around the world.

Kathy Arnason presented Mr. James, Principal with a Peace Pole in honour of our dedication towards Peace making.
Description of “The Fountain of Peace”
The Fountain of Peace Project will unite Canadian children with each other through messages of peace. To facilitate this effort and create a legacy and tangible celebration a mobile fountain made of stones from around the world called “The Fountain of Peace” has been created. The Fountain is a symbol of a world without boundaries or borders.
The Fountain of Peace Project will visit approximately 40 launch schools across Canada.. The Launch Schools will be the catalyst within their province.  During our visit to each Launch School we will film interviews with students asking them two questions.  What kind of world do you want? What does peace mean to you?  These interviews will be collected for the purpose of a documentary focused on Canadian Children’s Voices of Peace.
By passing the peace messages forward The Fountain of Peace Project will be uniting Canadian Children’s voices in peace, creating an opportunity to hear their voices and honour their wisdom and supports their futures.
